T-Mobile HTC HD7 Review

Pros :- Beautifull 4.3″ screen, front/back facing camera. Comes with new Windows phone 7 , windows new OS. It also has the capability of taking videos in 720p and has a 5.0 megapixel camera.

Cons :- The backdoor on the device is a bit flimsy and cheaply made. There are also some bugs that still need to be fixed on the new operating system. The camera also had a bit trouble when it came to white balance.

TC just keeps coming up with this gigantic smartphone screens. Now Microsoft has joined HTC to come up with the new HTC HD7 featured on T-Mobiles network. This mega screen device ships out with the new Windows 7 OS. Other major features include 800 x 400 resolution, a 1 GHz Snapdragon processor, 576MB of RAM, and a 5 megapixel camera with autofocus and 720p movie mode. So whats so different about this device? With its new OS you’ll definitely fall in love with Microsoft has to offer now. There’s is even a handy kickstand for watching videos in landscape mode, and whats better than watching them on such a huge screen?
Besides having the kickstand you also have two speakers that frame the mega-sized display. They are both hidden inside nice crevices that are located on the bottom and top of the phone. The outsides of the phone also house a volume rocker, two stage camera button, and the standard power/lock button.
The overall exterior look of the HD7 is pretty nice, but there are some things that we weren’t so fond over. One is the backdoor of the device, its made for some flimsy plastic material that looks like it could have a tendency to crack. It doesn’t look too bad but there could be some wear and tear after some time of use. We we also not too fond of how wiggly the kickstand was but we’ll live, plus the speakers turned out to be the biggest dust magnets and to clean them wasn’t the easiest task either.
But on the positive note we really like how the phone had the perfect curve design to fit so well in the hand. This really all depends on the size of you’re palm, but most users should feel comfortable when using the device. Although we did criticize the cheapness of the backdoor we do have to say that it was easy to remove unlike some other devices out there.
The T-Mobile version of the device will be packing 16GB of internal memory while some other variants of the phone have to settle for 8GB. T-Mobile is also including Slacker radio and netflix apps pre-installed right on the device.
The HD7 comes with a 1GHz snapdragon processor (Qualcomm QSD8250.) A lot of the internal factors of the HD7 are identical to the HD2, which makes us wonder whether or not HTC put much extra thought into the HD7’s internal details. But overall the whole exterior is different but almost identical on the inside.
We were a bit confused when it came to the battery of the phone. The phone ships out with a 1,230 mAh battery which seems way to small for a hefty smartphone. This especially because its trying to power a device with a 4.3″ screen. This could possibly mean that users are going to have to carry around a charger because the phone will probably not last through a full day.
When it comes to the speakers not only were they dust grabbers but they also were not as clear as we would have liked them to be. The sounds weren’t too impressive and some sounds we played would sound muffled and not crisp at all. But they weren’t horribly bad.
So what going to be the major factor of people purchasing the HD7? I’d say the first thing people are going to want is that beautiful 4.3″ screen, and of course that fact that its a windows mobile 7 device.
The pixelation of the HD7 allows users to browse through websites online without the need to zoom in on everything. Although some may find the screen overwhelming at first it something you grow accustomed, after that regular screen will just appear too small for you. At least that’s how we feel.
The camera on the HD7 and both its good and bad. The good was that it took some really nice pictures and shot some really presentable videos. The bad was that it sometimes struggled with white balance and the our personal settings were reset every time. Each time we wanted to shoot at 720p we had to manually go into setting and make it at 720p every single time. We also noticed that the videos were great but sometimes the sensor would search for something to focus on even though the camera was being held still.
Overall the HD7 is exactly what we thought it would be. Its the same 4.3″ screen that HTC has not gotten accustomed to and has had success with on the EVO and HD2. When it comes what its running on the inside we say that Windows did a pretty good job except for a few little bugs. But hopefully they just keep getting better.
