Apple iOS 4.2 Now Available To Download

Apple has announced that the new version of its operating system, iOS 4.2 is now available to download.

 

Whats New To All Devices?

 

One of the headline changes in iOS 4.2 is that the FindmyiPhone (iPad or iPod Touch) feature is now available free. Previously, to use the service you had to purchase a MobileMe subscription.  The service enables you to view the location of your iPhone on a map to locate it when its lost. Additionally, you can make your mobile make a sound remotely on your PC or even lock the phone or wipe the data.

The Airplay service has also been improved and now allows streaming of music, video and photos from iPad , iPhone and iPod touch to an Apple TV. In the coming months support will also be added to stream direct to Airplay speakers from your Apple device.

 

Airprint has also been added which enables all iOS 4.2 devices to wirelessly print to any Airprint enabled printers which currently include the HP Photosmart, HP Laserjet Pro and HP OfficeJet.

 

Game Center has also been added which allows iPad , iPhone and iPod touch users to challenge friends and share scores and achievements.

 

What is new to iPad?

 

iOS 4.2 is an update that makes the iPad a completely new product and brings a large number of significant improvements to the tablet.

 

Multi-tasking has now been added to the iPhone, which enables you to switch between your favourite applications instantly without any impact on battery life. 

 

Another new addition to the iPad is the use of folders which enable you to easily organize  apps with drag and drop simplicity. The Mail facility has also been improved and features a Unified Inbox, fast inbox switching and a threaded message view.

 

Other new features added to the iPad include the ability to rent TV episodes direct to your iPad, the ability to find and highlight specific words in webpages using Safari, enhanced enterprise support and support for 25 additional languages.

 

How to Update ?

 

The iOS 4.2 update is available today to download to iPad, iPhone and iPod touch by syncing the device with iTunes 10.1. iOS 4.2 is compatible with iPad, iPhone 3G, iPhone 3GS, iPhone 4, second and third generation iPod touch (late 2009 models with 32GB or 64GB) and new iPod touch.
